Resource Finder Leads You to Cheese
Have you heard of the best-selling book Who Moved My Cheese? Dr. Spencer Johnson gave up his medical career to become one of the most acclaimed self-help writers of the last twenty years. In fact, Who Moved My Cheese sold 30 million copies by 2018 and continues to be widely read. Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw navigate a maze looking for their cheese which remains a powerful metaphor on how we handle change in our own lives. We can apply this tale to making our own Aging in Place, a long-term care plan.
There are four characters in this story. The first two are mice named Sniff and Scurry who are ambitious and optimistic searchers for new cheese. Then we have Hem and Haw, two small people, who embody the negative thoughts of fear, denial, and resistance to change. Both groups are looking for cheese which represents happiness, and fulfillment. I recommend reading this short book to digest the richness of the message.
