IRS Changes Impact Your Taxes
April 18, 2022 is the deadline for filing 2021 federal taxes. Beware that this year is different in that expenses not recognized as tax-deductible in 2020 taxes may be covered in 2021 filing. The American Rescue Plan also increased and expanded the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit, making more people eligible and increasing the total credit to $4,000 for one qualifying individual and $8,000 for two or more. Dependent care is the classification for caregiving.

Tell Congress to Pass Credit For Caring
The Credit for Caring bill amends the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. It would provide a nonrefundable credit for working family caregivers. I encourage you to reach out to your Congressional representative and demand they support this important legislation. The Credit for Caring Act has been introduced every year since 2016. Both the House and Senate, Democrats and Republicans have supported this Act in previous years. It’s time to get this important change to our tax code over the finish line.
